Ally Award

Sugarcreek Cares is pleased to recognize Greene County Public Health (GCPH) with the Diversity Ally Award. GCPH has shown a steadfast commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. They routinely use social media to increase awareness about minority health, including the health impacts of systemic racism and other forms of discrimination.

They celebrate Black History Month, Pride, and Minority Mental Health. GCPH provided vaccine clinics to minority populations, who were disproportionately affected by COVID. They also highlighted the unjust stigma and poor treatment of Chinese and Asian Americans in the early days of the pandemic. Finally, GCPH partners with organizations, like Inclusive Fairborn, to help distribute supplies and health resources to communities in need. We are so grateful to have such a valuable resource for all of Greene County. Accepting this award on behalf of GCPH, and pictured here, are Laurie Fox, Public Information Officer, and Sheryl Wynn, Director of Planning, Preparedness and Promotion.

Sugarcreek Cares is pleased to announce its first Diversity Ally Award: Ms. Amanda Brenner.  In her role as Youth Services librarian at Bellbrook-Winters Community Library, Ms. Brenner has made the library a welcoming, inclusive place.  From books she recommends and displays, to asking kids their preferred pronouns, to co-hosting The “kNOw More Book Club which focuses on  social justice issues, to her engaging Tik Tok account aimed at teen readers, she is an asset to this community.  Especially at a time when books focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion are increasingly being censored.  Thank you for helping make the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek community more accepting and inclusive.

Nominate someone on this FORM. As such, recipients of the award exemplify many of the following behaviors and attitudes:
